THE LOS ANGELES SCUBA SHOW
I’ve been working hard in my studio this past year, creating a new selection of underwater paintings, pastels and prints especially for this year's Scuba Show, taking place on the weekend of June 1st and 2nd. Please note that the event has moved and is now being held in the Los Angeles Convention Center in downtown LA. My booth is #448 in the main hall. For folks interested in the worlds of scuba diving, marine biology, ocean conservation, dive vacations, underwater photography and underwater art, this is California's premier event to attend. I loved having a booth last year - I am one of very few artists who show there - and folks were super friendly and receptive.

JANUARY 2022 NEWS
Greetings! There are so many things to worry about in the world right now but thankfully, so many amazing things going on too. I've been getting into the NFT scene in the past few months - such a radical new way to see and collect art that will never replace the magic of the physical object but is nevertheless altering the way art can exist in our lives. I invite you to check out my Feral Children Opensea NFT Gallery via the following link:
https://opensea.io/collection/stephenholmanart
I've been also been extremely busy with many, many Pet Portrait commissions (see the pet portrait page on this website, and prepping for my month as Artist-in-Residence at the University of Southern California during the month of February. This year I plan on focussing mostly on underwater paintings. Check out Stephenholmanart on Instagram and Facebook to see the updates.
Thanks folks! Stay positive but test negative!

OCTOBER 2020 NEWS
DEAR FRIENDS,
The world may feel a little off-kilter right now, but I believe that art can always help us get some BALANCE and PERSPECTIVE in our lives. I also believe that making art is one of the few activities that we as collective humans have a right to feel proud of, and that its presence in our world is ESSENTIAL to our quality of life. It can give us HOPE and HAPPINESS, instill a tingle of MAGIC and MYSTERY into our daily existence, and further our relationship with the universe in ways that even science is not always capable of. I have dedicated the past four decades of my own life to making art, whether in the form of painting, tv animation, live performance or teaching, and I would not change my decision to do so for any reason.
It is with these thoughts that I offer you news and pictures of some of the work that I have been making over the last few months, in the hope that some of the pleasure and sense of balance that I get from making these images can be shared through this medium. Thanks for hearing me out.

ITEM 1/. Pet Portraits
With many of the galleries, shops and conventions that I have previously sold my work through now fully or partially closed, the internet is currently a key artistic portal to the world, and one that fortunately allows me direct contact with my clients. For the last couple of years I have been taking online commissions to paint PET PORTRAITS in this way, which I find to be a very satisfying activity. Especially now, when we are spending more time in the house with our animal companions, people’s relationships with their pets really intrigue and move me. Here are are two of my latest pet portrait commissions. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in having me paint one for you.

ITEM 2/. Paintings and Cat Pastels
Original artworks are special. They are one of a kind, irrefutably unique. I hate to say goodbye to an original piece when I sell it, but the bond created between creator and buyer of an original painting or pastel is special to me too. Here are some of my most recent pieces. Let me know if you see anything you like!
ITEM 3/. Dove Biscuit Studio
Thankfully I do still have one brick and mortar art outlet! For those of you who would like to see my paintings IRL, please visit the wondferful DOVE BISCUIT STUDIO on the mezzanine level of THE LAST BOOKSTORE in downtown LA! The gallery space is open to the public Fri-Sun (or by appointment), and has just doubled in size (convenient for social-distancing). I have two walls of artworks for sale there. A combination of prints and originals ranging in price from $20 to $2000.
That’s all for now. STAY SAFE, wear a mask, keep calm, be compassionate and CARRY ON!
best wishes

ITEM 4/.
Another art event that I’m honored to have had a part in, is the second New York City solo exhibition by William A. Hall, the 76 year-old outsider artist that I discovered three years ago. The exhibition, entitled “William A. Hall: Symphony of Survival" opens on Friday 12th October at the Ross+Kramer Gallery on 63rd St in NYC, and runs for a month. The exhibit is co-presented by the Henry Boxer Gallery.
"William A. Hall spent nearly two decades of his life homeless. More than half of that time he lived in a car. Yet remarkably out of these conditions he produced a substantial body of important artwork. Built on the common unit of 11 x 8.5 inch drawing sheets William produced a complex array of single and multiple panel images that speak of optimism, safety and survival.”

ITEM #1!
I am thrilled to announce that I have a solo exhibition of new paintings entitled "FERAL CHILDREN: 30 Curious Case Studies" opening on Saturday 21st October at the Pop Secret Gallery in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles. The reception will be held from 6-8pm. https://www.facebook.com/popsecretgallery/
The paintings in this show are brand new and all center on the theme of Feral Children. To quote from my artist statement: "This age-old fascination with 'Homo Ferens' indicates that Feral Children may be more than mere novelties. The Feral Child is both a symbol and a challenge; he/she makes us question what it is to be human; makes us ask what separates us from other animals. For me, Feral Children are, above all, symbols of paradise. Hybrids of man and nature, they are hopeful metaphors of a golden age when all species did/will exist together in a state of physical and spiritual harmony. The(Feral) Children are the Future!"
ITEM #2!
I'm also excited to announce that on October 14th I will be releasing a Limited Print with the Prints-on-Wood company, who have in the past worked with Shepard Fairey, Gary Baseman, etc. Entitled 'Green Wolf Spirit' it will be released in a signed limited edition, and will tie in with Wolf Awareness Week. A percentage of profits will be donated to a Wolf Protection charity. See this website for details: www.printsonwood.com
